Jamaica, Bahamas collaborate to strengthen correctional service

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A delegation from the Bahamas Department of Corrections is in Jamaica participating in an observation tour of the island’s Probation and Parole System. The delegation paid a courtesy call to State Minister of National Security, Senator Pearnel Charles Jnr, and Permanent Secretary Dianne McIntosh on Tuesday. During the meeting, which was also attended by Commissioner of Corrections Ina Hunter, discussions centred on technical cooperation and the exchange of best practices to strengthen each island’s correctional service. The tour marks the second phase in the development of a probation and parole framework suitable to the needs and conditions of the Bahamian society, with specific emphasis on Inmates Re-Entry System, the Parole Board, the Parole Justice System, Legal Division, and Parole Community Housing.
